About Our Tibet Tours General information on our Tibet tours |
We operate the private-departure Tibet tours with a minimum requirement of two participants. The weekly fixed-departure Tibet tours have no group size limit, and on most departures we have been eight and twelve people. Our fixed-departure groups tend to be an international mix of people from different walks of life, mostly between 20 and 50 years old. Our partnership with quality operators in Tibet ensures a smooth journey and a memorable experience. There are no join-ins or "pooling" once the tour starts. Trips involving overland journeys use 4WD Land Cruiser for small groups, and Toyota Coaster minibuses for larger groups. We can operate private departures for any number of people; we also operate longer driving, camping & trekking tours in Tibet to destinations like the Namtso Bird Sanctuary, Mt. Namche Barwa, and the holy Mt. Kailas... Contact us for more information. An Alien Travel Permit (ATP) is required in addition to a regular Chinese visa for travel in Tibet; this can only be obtained (outside Tibet) by joining a tour organized by a recognized operator. The local Chinese Embassy's policy on travel to Tibet tends to be quite volatile and usually only issues group visas for five or more people. It is advisable to obtain a visa for China before entering Nepal as it can be endorsed for travel in Tibet, so your tour can be operated regardless of group size. In case there are less than five signups, you will need to obtain a visa for China before your arrival in Nepal. We will then endorse your visa for travel in Tibet and operate the tour; however, a surcharge will apply if we have to operate for only one person (see Cost Information below). A week is normally required to obtain travel documents for Tibet at the Chinese embassy in Kathmandu. It can be expedited by paying a "rush" fee. We can apply for your visa beforehand; however, your original passport has to be submitted at the embassy two days before tour departure. If you hold a diplomatic passport, clearance from Beijing is required; it's better to travel on an ordinary passport, if you have one. Prices quoted are liable to change without notice - please confirm at the time of booking. The tour cost quoted is the cost per person, and includes:
Not included in the cost are:
We use the Dhood Gu in Lhasa and the best available hotels elsewhere. Accommodation is on twin-sharing, bed & breakfast basis. If you would like a private departure, we can quote you costs based on other hotels in Lhasa. We do not provide insurance; participants must be covered with a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes emergency evacuation. We cannot be held responsible for any changes in the itineraries, flights, or accommodations from causes beyond our control, including but not limited to natural, technical, and political factors. While we will do our utmost to make your journey safe and comfortable, you travel at your own risk at all times. You will be asked to sign an assumption and release of risk form at the pre-departure briefing. |
