The
Lhasa-Kathmandu Overland tour is a classic 8-day trans-Himalayan
journey, offering a cross section of Central Tibet. You visit the
key shrines and monasteries in the major towns of Lhasa, Shigatse,
and Gyantse. You behold the desolate, breathtaking vastness of the
Tibetan plateau with the surreal snow-capped summits of the high
Himalaya in the southern horizon. And you discover the warmth and
profound spiritualism of the Tibetan people.
The adventure begins with the spectacular one-hour flight over
Mt. Everest and the Himalaya to Lhasa, the religious and spiritual
center of Tibet. After spending three days acclimatizing and exploring
the sights in and around Lhasa, you drive across the Tibetan plateau
crossing two 5,000m passes to ultimately descend right through the
Himalaya to Nepal. En route you make stops at Gyantse,
Shigatse, and Shegar, visiting the Palkor Chode and Tashi Lhunpo.
On this classic 8-day overland tour, the sights in and around Lhasa
and the adventure of the trans-Himalayan drive back across the desolately
beautiful valleys of Central Tibet will leave you inspired by the
rich religious heritage and spiritualism of the Tibetan people,
and overwhelmed by the spellbinding landscapes of the Roof of
the World.
