The
trek up the Langtang valley is a remarkable short trek, offering all that
a great Himalayan walk does: spectacular mountain scenery, pastoral Himalayan
villages and their friendly inhabitants, and pristine wilderness abounding
in wildlife, with much diversity throughout. The trek begins at the road
head at Syabrubesi, a scenic day’s drive from Kathmandu. As we trek
up the valley, we see it transform from the relatively gentle “V”
of the lower valley to the “U” in its higher, glaciated beginnings.
The views from Langshisha are indeed dramatic, and the Himalayan meadows
at Langtang are ablaze with colorful flowers such as edelweiss around
the year.
Camping as a self-sufficient team allows us to spend our nights at spectacular
campsites while enabling us to better explore the region. This is an excellent
alternative first-time trek in Nepal, particularly so if you’d like
to avoid the crowds – the Langtang region receives much fewer trekkers
than the Everest and Annapurna regions of Nepal.
