Trans-Himalaya Treks Treks in the Nepal trans-Himalaya best experienced in the summer Monsoon |
The trans-Himalayan enclaves of Dolpo, Mustang, and the Manang/ Muktinath valley are ideal trekking destinations in the Monsoon -- the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himal ranges effectively block the rain from reaching this Tibet-like arid, semi-desert biotope. With the onset of summer, the rugged trans-Himalayan settlements spring into life, metamorphosing into verdant oases in the barren wilderness; it is undoubtedly the best time of year to visit. Nature is at her most resplendent, rural activity is at its peak; moreover, this season also has the greatest concentration of festivals. We offer two demanding demanding grade camping treks to Dolpo and a challenging camping trek to Mustang as fixed-date departures. We also offer a short moderate lodge trek in the upper Kali Gandaki valley, and a demanding 11-day trek to Lake Tilicho that includes the traverse of the 16,730' / 5,100m Meso Kanto La down to the Kali Gandaki valley. Both of the latter treks employ flights to eliminate trekking in the Monsoon-affected foot- & middle-hills. |
Trans-Himalaya Treks Featuring a summer trek in the Tibet-like, semi-desert region north of the Annapurnas, this is the perfect introduction to Nepal in the Monsoon. This demanding adventure combines parts of the trek around the Annapurnas with a detour to Lake Tilicho, traversing the Meso Kanto pass down to the Kali Gandaki valley. Mustang
- Journey The trans-Himalayan enclave of Mustang is one of the few remaining places where centuries-old Tibetan Buddhist tradtition continues to flourish. This two-week summer trek is one of the world's classic cultural journeys. Two outstanding rigorous camping treks to Dolpo, beginning or ending with the flight to / from Jumla in West Nepal, and the option of a Bardiya wildlife safari. |
