Tibet

The Roof of the World

The rugged, unearthly beauty of the world's highest plateau and its rich Buddhist culture has captivated countless travelers through the centuries. Travel in the once-forbidden land is still restricted to organized tours; nevertheless, a journey to Tibet truly surpasses one's wildest imagination.

Ideal as an extension to your stay in Nepal, our Tibet tours begin with the spectacular one-hour flight from Kathmandu over the Himalaya to Lhasa, the religious and spiritual center of Tibet. The next three days are spent visiting the major shrines and monasteries in and around Lhasa: the magnificent Potala, the Jokhang – Tibet's holiest shrine – and the monasteries of Sera and Drepung, where small numbers of monks perpetuate their glorious religious heritage. The breathtaking overland drive across the vast Tibetan plateau includes stops at Gyantse and Shigatse, and offers impressive vistas of the Himalaya including Everest in the southern horizon.

Whether your time only allows a short fly-in and fly-out tour of Lhasa or you prefer the adventure of the trans-Himalayan drive back across the desolate beautiful valleys of Central Tibet, you will be inspired by the rich religious heritage and spiritualism of the Tibetan people, and overwhelmed by the spellbinding landscapes of the Roof of the World.
